One of the differences StepMania 5 have from StepMania 3.9, save all configs into a different folder instead the installation one, and this used to prevent some problems caused by most of the people (and with this, avoid to touch the StepMania 5 "system files"). But equally, there's no motivation to worry, because StepMania 5 offer an "option" to make portable that installation and every save go into the installation folder (making it useful to carry it into an USB drive and play with your friends anywhere).

To do this, will be enough to follow the steps:

1- Launch a Notepad app in Administrator mode (recommended for best results).

​

2- With the Notepad on screen, leave it in blank, and then go to File -> Save as...

​

3- In the Save as... window, first change the filetype to "All files" (normally located in the low part of the window), go to the StepMania 5 installation folder, and then name the file as "Portable.ini" (without the quotes), and save.

4- After that, launch StepMania 5 and it will create all the saving folders into that installation folder.
